We had a slightly early B-Day dinner for the Mrs at BLT Steak. Well, it almost didn't happen as our reservation got mixed and we were almost left 2 chairs short. But once everything got ironed out, we were seated. I called in advance and BLT Steak does let you BYO for a $25 corkage fee per bottle. We started with a bottle of NV Jacques Selosse Brut Blanc de Blanc Initial... my breakfast of choice if those occasional Powerball purchases ever materialize...
Of course since BLT Steak is a steakhouse, I had to order a bourbon based cocktail so I sampled the Cocchi Monster with Woodford Reserve bourbon, Cointreau, lemon juice, Cocchi Americano and a mint "wipe".
We were also served the complimentary Chicken Liver Mousse
Along with Popovers, butter and salt
The staff uncorked my 1988 Chateau Pichon Lalande which had green pepper and green bean on the nose with a touch of old tobacco and a smooth palate flow and finish
And my 1996 Guado al Tasso with that characteristic leather, licorice and earth with dried red fruit and a seamless palate flow and medium finish
Of course when you attempt to uncork older bottles without a Durand... before I could offer my Durand to our waitstaff, they took the bottles to uncork and decant...
A 2007 Checkerboard Cabernet Sauvignon was also uncorked as a counterpoint to the Super Tuscan and Bordeaux
The starters included the Steak Tartare for the Mrs
The Braised Short Rib
Salad
Ahi Tartare
Oysters on the half shell - these were as good as any oysters I've sampled including those at Hog Island Oyster Co in the Bay Area...
And my Scallop Ceviche - A winnah starter!
We then moved onto the mains including the Mrs' Bone-In Rib Eye with bone marrow and roasted garlic...
And a bevy of Hanger Steaks with crispy gnocchi - great beef flavor and gnocchi to die for!
Served with loads of side including the 3 Mustard Home Fries
And Hash Browns
We also uncorked a 1997 Forman Cabernet Sauvignon but I forgot to get a photo of the bottle - the staff is very efficient in whisking away your bottle to uncork and decant... I also uncorked a 1995 Louis Roederer Cristal after dinner but again, forgot to get a photo of the bottle...
Desserts included the Mrs' Peanut Butter Chocolate Mousse with Banana Ice Cream
The Warm Chocolate Tarte with Pistachio Ice Cream
Some Special Strawberry concoction
And my Hummingbird Cake with banana cake, cream filling and caramel sauce
And the Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Ice Cream
Ending the meal with complimentary Brownies
And my Kaffir Veev with Hanger One Kaffir Vodka, veev acai, fresh lime juice, kaffir lime and ginger ale
Other than the initial reservation mix-up, the meal was outstanding. Great raw oysters and scallops, great beef, terrific sides, good cocktails and most of all, great company. Though our main standby restaurant no longer exists, it's good to know there are other restaurants out there in the 50th that can still satisfy our dinner outings... And I guess since we gave our servers remainders of our wines, we only were charged corkage for 3 bottles when we actually uncorked 6 bottles... Yes, we'll be back!
