Dinner @ Livestock Tavern

We sampled the grub at Livestock Tavern this past week with friends visiting from NoCal. Since we arrived a little early, we did a couple of cocktail selections including the For-ev-ER with For-ev-ER Damrak Gin, Cynar, Smoked Watermelon, Charred Jalapeno, Simple Syrup and Lime Juice. A little heat from the charred jalapeno balanced by the sweet smoked watermelon...

The Mrs selected the Squints with Kohana Rum Agricole, Amaro Montenegro, Orange Curacao, Spiced Almond Syrup and Lemon Juice - lighter and sweeter than my cocktail but very refreshing...

Since we actually were 1 hour early (I thought the reservation was for 6:30... it was actually for 7:00), I also ordered a Broken Branch with Knob Creek Bourbon, Carpano Antica, Luxardo Maraschino and Fernet Branca - just like a traditional Manhattan...

We then progressed to several appetizers and small plate including the Tavern Chop Salad with Radicchio, Bay Shrimp, Bacon, Corn, Avocado, Tomato, Hearts of Palm and Soft Boiled Egg. I really enjoyed the creaminess and crispness of the salad.

The Roasted Tomato and Bleu Cheese Tart with Arugula, Stone Ground Mustard Vinaigrette and Spiced Walnuts - buttery crust with a balance of sweet, sour and creamy...

The Wild Boar Grilled Summer Sausage with Baked Beans and Cherry Barbecue Sauce...

The Grilled Octopus with Fingerlings, Pickled Jalapenos, Frisee, Tinkerbell Peppers and Red Pepper Aioli - the octopus was VERY tender...

The Beets with Crispy Goat Cheese, Frisee, Radish and Passion Fruit Dressing.

The Cured Duck with Vine Ripen Tomatoes, Micro-Greens, Bleu Cheese, Buttermilk and Balsamic.

And the Crab Cakes with Saffron Aioli and Sundried Tomato Jam.

We also uncorked a 1995 Mongeard-Mugneret Vosne-Romanee Les Orveaux 1er Cru

Along with a 1982 Domaine de Chevalier with classic stone and tobacco on the nose

Our mains included the Seared Scallops & Pea Risotto with Bacon and Hen of the Wood...

The Sea Urchin Pasta...

The Tavern Burger with Bacon Onion Marmalade, Gruyere, Frisee, Tomato and Kaiser Roll...

...
The Smoked Pork Belly with Bourbon Honey Glaze, Jalapeno Butter and Corn Bread

The Grilled Rack of Lamb with Quinoa and Kale with Peppered Mint Vinaigrette...

Along with a side of Honey Corn Cakes with Avocado Crème and Bacon

We also uncorked a Revana Cabernet Sauvignon...

And a 1999 Fantino Vigna dei Dardi Riserva Barolo...

The girls still had room for a couple of desserts,,,

While I simply relished my last cocktail, a Broken Shoe Shiner with Pernod, Aperol, Benedictine, Lemon Juice and Egg White...

Another great meal with with great friends. I'm not sure where our annual end of year vacation will take us (or if we even leave the rock) but it was great to see S and P again and uncork a bottle or two...
