Dinner @ Eat Honolulu

Last weekend we attended a private dinner to welcome back Kim Karalovich to the 50th. Back in the day, she helped run The Wine Stop off of King St and led wine tours through California and Italy. That's where most of the Palaka Wine Co members actually first met... I'll admit it, the T's never attended any of those tours nor did we attend the monthly wine dinners hosted by The Wine Stop. We met most of the Palaka Wine Co either at Vino, HASR Wine Co or DK Steakhouse/Sansei. But The Wine Stop did have a regular place in our wine purchasing rotation and Kim did sell us the first bottle  of Dom Perignon Oenotheque 1990 that we purchased (the Mrs has since purchased two more but before you come knocking at our door, all three bottles have been uncorked... ).

The menu for the evening created by Chef Dave Passanisi looked like this:

Antipasto Platter
w marinated Peppers, Olives, Baguette, Crisps Gourmet Meats & Cheeses

Waipoli Farms mixed Seasonal Greens
w local Avocado, Hawaiian Hearts of Palm, Kahuku Grape Tomatoes
& our Big Island Fingerlime Vinaigrette

Roasted Red Potatoes
w Sugar Spiced Bacon, Brussels Sprouts & Gorgonzola

Braised Pork Belly
w house pickled Cabbage & Hamakua Mushroom Mustard

Gnocchi
w Brown Butter, Island Sage, local Kale & Parmesan

Grilled Sirloin of Beef
w Truffle Salt & a Fennel Bordelaise

And since many of the Palaka Wine Co members were present, there were red wines literally by the case including...

We carted a magnum of 2003 Chateau Montviel from Pomerol...

Along with a 2008 Kosta Browne Gap's Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir...

Some of the munchies we sampled...

Since it was G's birthday the previous day, the K's got a whole sheet of Lemon Crunch Cake from Diamond Head Grill for dessert...

And as the evening wound down, J brought out 5 bottles of select Knob Creek bourbon made for specific Hawaii people or businesses in the 50th...

So even if you aren't moving back to the 50th, it was great to see you again Kim!... though I still think even with the high cost of living here, the 50th is a lot more desirable then Jersey...
