Lunch @ Livestock Tavern

For the final day of our staycation, we decided to have lunch at Livestock Tavern. They just switched to their Summer Menu though they do keep certain items on the menu throughout the year. I forgot that Friday was a State/County holiday so the underground parking at Smith/Beretania was coned off since it was filled there... we parked outside of Murphy's... lunchtime "special" parking... $22 for TWO HOURS!

We started with a round of cocktails including the Dear Darla... ($) for the Mrs with Kohana Rum Agricole, Campari, lemon juice, club soda and lemongrass syrup... It had a strange combo of flavors goin' on...

And the I've Got Two Pickles ($) for me with Hendricks gin, Ultimat vodka, Carpano Bianco, Lileet Blanc and fresh cucumber... Very clean flavors goin' on and I'd order it again...

We then sampled the Tavern Chop ($14) salad which is always on their menu with radicchio, bay shrimp, bacon, corn, avocado, tomatoes, hearts of palm and eggs. We always order this salad as it's one of the better chopped salads we've sampled...

And the seasonal King Crab and Fennel ($15) salad with King crab, fennel, pickled jalapenos, sweet onions and and Old Bay mousse. We would also continue to order this salad if it were on the "everyday" menu as it was also had a nice balance of flavors and textures...

I had a glass of 2015 Birichino Rose of Grenache ($10)...

While the Mrs sampled another cocktail, The Blur 2 with Pisco, St Germain, egg white and Orange Gomme syrup... the drops of bitters put this cocktail over the top... the Mrs also really enjoyed this libation...

I then scarfed my Braised Beef Tongue ($16) sandwich which always remains on the lunch menu with grilled onions, Provolone and au jus for dippin'. As tender as the best steak sandwich served with a healthy dose of fries...

While the Mrs polished her Buttermilk Fried Chicken ($16) sandwich which is only on the Summer menu. She thought the chicken was the star of the sandwich while I thought that the slaw was what tied the flavors together...

I then finished lunch with a final cocktail, the He-Man Woman Haters Club with Buffalo Trace bourbon, Rittenhouse rye, Pigs Nose blended scotch and Earl Grey, Bob's ginger bitters and Hawaiian Bitters Co lemon and honey bitters. Whew! Strong enough to put hair on your chest! Would be a perfect starter cocktail at a steakhouse...

The barkeep also let me sample a little WhistlePig 12 year old rye aged in a combination of Madeira, Port and Sauternes barrels. It had a very complex nose and spicy undertones...

So once again, we'll be back... Don't know when since the staycation ends very soon though lunch is also is served on Saturdays and that Maine Lobster Roll on the summer lunch menu looks to die for...
