Picnic on the Lanai @ Kakaako Kitchen

We attended Kakaako Kitchen's June Picnic on the Lanai dinner this past Sunday with the theme of Spanish Tapas. As usual, we started with some bubbly, a bottle of Gondolino Prosecco...

The evening started with cured olives with garlic and rosemary in extra virgin olive oil...

Then progressed to Gambas al Ajillo or shrimp cooked in olive oil and garlic. They were perfectly cooked and very plump and tender...

V uncorked a Kermit Lynch selection 2014 Depeuble Beaujolais Blanc made primarily from Chardonnay...

The the Ceviche was served - I'm not sure if it was marlin or a snapper like opakapaka or onaga but it was covered in diced tomatoes and avocados again with olive oil...

I also uncorked a magnum of Senorio de P, Pecina Rioja Riserva - loads of dried spices and a very nice palate flow and medium finish... and great with the olives...

Next up was the Gazpacho which had a pleasing sweetness and savoriness...

V also uncorked a D'Esclans Whispering Angel Rose...

For the Mojama or seared (tataki) marinated ahi topped with sauteed mushrooms and chives... I've never seen a Spanish dish with fish and mushrooms but it was very good...

We also sampled the Bunuelos de Bacalao or salted codfish fritters served with a parsley aioli...

Along with the last main, Pollo con Chorizo Espanol or chicken braised in tomatoes, chorizo and olives which was served with brown rice (not necessary Spanish, probably more to sate Hawaii diners and their need for rice)...

The final dessert course was a Flan...

Once again, it was a great meal that was well worth the $50 including tax and tip. And BYOB is always a good thing with our group. Next month's Picnic on the Lanai features Kakaako Kitchen's favorites like Furikake Tempura Catfish, Chicken and Veggie Skewers, Wagyu Beef Sliders, Calamari Spinach Salad, Grilled Shrimp and Burgundy Braised Beef along with several dessert selections... Needless to say, we plan on attending the POTL again next month!
