Summer Cafe BBQ @ MW Restaurant

MW Restaurant recently restarted their "Cafe Series" meals featuring themed meals served ala carte. The last Cafe Series meal was over a year ago last April featuring their Fried Chicken Cafe. After the overdue hiatus, today's meal was a Summer Cafe BBQ. You chose exactly what you want with savory courses like:

Barbecue Baby Back Ribs ($5)

(We did order the shoulder but both our server and all of us forgot about it)

Smoked Kurobuta Pork Shoulder ($5)

Roast Pork Belly ($4)

Smoked Beef Brisket ($4)

Grilled Kauai Shrimp ($3)

(Forgot to get a photo of the bratwurst)

Terrence's Beer Bratwurst ($11)

Offered with sides like:

Truffle Musubi ($4)

Corn on the Cob ($5)

Garlic Potato ($5)

Twin Bridge Farm Asparagus ($5)

Grilled Vegetable Salad ($5)

Garlic Ho Farms String Beans ($5)

Beer Battered Okra ($5)

Braised Kale ($5)

Tokachi Azuki Baked Beans ($5)

Truffled Corn Bread ($5)

Ending with dessert:

Smores ($7)

Strawberry "Shortcake" ($7)

Hamakua Farms Banana Bread "To Go" ($5)

We did start with a round of cocktails including the Nagai Shima ($12), the Cucumber Yuzu Fizz ($12) and the Feel the Beet ($12).

I did uncork a Syrah since this was a BBQ, a 2009 No Girls La Paciencia Vineyard Syrah which straddled both the New World and Old World with ripe fruit and earthy mineral and a pleasing palate flow and long finish.

The brisket and ribs were as tender as brisket and ribs gets - I would have been totally satisfied with three or four servings of each along with the musubi and cornbread! The bratwurst was also very good though a touch spicy and the pork belly had a perfectly crisped skin. Of course, when musubi is first grilled then topped with fresh shaved truffles (as was the cornbread), you know it's gonna be good! I've always enjoyed their fried items especially when served with the black pepper sauce they usually serve with their calamari.
Then of course, there was dessert which is ALWAYS good at MW. While the strawberry shortcake was very refreshing, the smores were the BOMB with a torched meringue covering chocolate mousse(?) and cherries.

So I hope MW Restaurant continues what used to be a monthly occurrence with their Cafe Series meals because we'll be back...
