Being Thankful

On this day when most Americans gather round the table to indulge in a gastronomic feast being thankful for the company of family and friends with the passage of another Thanksgiving, I'm pretty sure that the gracious hosts of this country aren't feeling exactly the same. Yes, they probably feel the same gratitude of sharing a meal with family and friends but probably regret opening their ancestral lands to all the rest of the immigrant population who have settled here. And that immigrant population extends to more than just those with Asian, African, Mexican or Middle Eastern roots, it includes the largest immigrant population with European roots.

Especially now with the ongoing struggle with the Dakota Access Pipeline. Which the mainstream media and both political parties really seem to be ignoring. I guess crude oil will always remain king and we'll only invest in renewable energy once every last drop of oil is exhausted... of course by then, the unrelenting use of combustible energy will have probably have started the next ice age...

And the Dakota Access Pipeline probably isn't the last. With the new administration, the Keystone XL Pipeline will probably be ramrodded at the speed of light...

And though not every supporter of the new administration is a racist, those who are seem to be coming out of the woodwork not just vocally expressing their racism but acting on it including violent physical acts on others who don't share their European heritage...

So this year, other than being thankful that we always have food on the table, a roof over our heads and relatively physical well-being, it's hard to find gratitude in what's happening in our country... I guess for now, I'll just hunker down with family and friends... probably with a bottle or two of wine...
