This past Saturday, we decided to finally participate in Restaurant Week so we selected the special menu at Vino. Of course, it entertaining listening to Chuck talk about his recent trip to Greece. The four course menu looked like this:
Chilled Jumbo Prawn
spicy tomato jam and basil pesto
paired with Birichino Malavasia Bianca
Red Wine Braised Short Rib
truffle Dijon aioli, bay leaf chimichurri and pickled red cabbage
paired with Sella Mosca Carignano del Sulcis Riserva
Pan Seared Catch of the Day
cauliflower puree, vine ripen tomato concasse,
scallion pesto and squid ink linguini
paired with Domaine Skouras Zoe
Salted Caramel Panna Cotta
marinated Kula strawberries and raspberry gelato
When the short rib was served, I uncorked one of my acquisitions from last year's Food and Wine Festival auction, a 1989 Chateau La Dominique which was in its perfect drinking window with loads of tobacco initially with dried herbs and green pepper eventually emerging and a medium long finish. Thankfully, I think I still have one bottle in storage.
And though the three main courses were very good, the Mrs also ordered a new menu item, a seafood bolognese... that salted caramel panna cotta was also the bomb!
While the Mr sipped her coffee, I simply had my usual Negroni... Another superb meal at our home away from home...
