Whiskey Smoke 808 in Kaneohe

Whiskey Smoke 808 made the move from Bob's bar on Hamakua Drive to Kamehameha Highway in Kaneohe in the old Fresh Catch location in late July. Because new eateries usually draw a lot of attention in the first several weeks, we waited a couple of weeks before visiting. On our first visit, we sampled the beef brisket...
Tender with a good beef flavor though it wasn't as moist as I would have expected...
We also sampled the pulled pork sandwich which was as good as pulled pork gets with a nice smoke flavor which wasn't dominant as you could still taste the pork. Sometimes smoked pork in the 50th tastes more like kalua pig - there is a definite difference in smouldering wood versus steaming banana stumps... the fries with the sandwich were also verry good...
When Ms S found out that the beef ribs would be a special on the following weekend, we made our 2nd visit. Because smoked beef ribs from the short plate are usually never sold in supermarkets, it's almost impossible to create them on your own at home... especially since they only comprise ribs #6, #7 and #8, there's only 6 on each bovine carcass...
These didn't disappoint as they were tender, juicy and very beefy and the side of baked beans, coleslaw and pickled cabbage didn't disappoint either and were the perfect complement to those fatty ribs... we still have to sample the chicken, pork ribs and when they're available, pastrami beef ribs...
