We ordered take-out from Waiahole Poi Factory yesterday as they just opened their 2nd location in the Windward Mall food court on 10/18/23. Yes, the original location is only about a 10 minute drive from our house but we never ventured there... Windward Mall is only a 2 minute drive and has a lot more parking.
Prices at Windward Mall are understandably a little higher than the original location as they now have to pay for a lease-rent...
We sampled the Kanaka Nui plate which includes almost everything - you chose rice or poi, since this is Hawaiian food, we had to get the poi and you also chose between the beef or squid luau - we selected the squid luau. Ms S also intended on a side of the hoio salad but it wasn't available. We did get some chili pepper water (chili peppah watah in the 50th)...
The kalua pig and lau lau portions are substantial with the chicken long rice, squid luau, lomi salmon and haupia in smaller containers... The flavors are like I remember from luaus attended in the past and there were visible chunks of salt salmon in the lomi salmon (usually you only see mini flakes of salt salmon)...
The chili peppah watah was a flavor that was reminiscent of my Uncle Ogi's back in Maui and perfect to dip the kalua pig and lau lau...
We also ordered a 2nd lau lau for good measure... Since it's so convenient now, we'll be back...
