Adult Beverages

Been on a roll lately (after completing my semi-annual lab work) with adult bevvies. For starters, there's always wine...
2016 Pickett Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes for this Cab hail from a vineyard right across Pickett Lane (hence the name) from the vaunted Eisele Vineyard (formerly Araujo, now known simply as Eisele Vineyards after the Araujo's sold the winery). Characteristic Napa Cab with nice structure and in balance and probably one of the better Napa Cabs under $50. It only started selling domestically for the past couple of years as all sales were in Canada and Europe but J.J. Buckley regularly gets an allocation...
2002 Scholium Proserpina. Basically a late harvest Cabernet Sauvignon that Abe Schoener made in the style of Ripasso Valpolicella. Juice from Cab was poured over the must of the late harvest Cab pressed grapes. Because it was a half bottle (375ml), I forgot about it in storage... unfortunately, it was just acid, acid and more acid...
2011 Grgich Hills Yountville Selection Cabernet Sauvignon. A bottle provided by the former "Wine Guy" of Grgich Hills who's a good friend and worked for Grgich for years... Another nicely balanced wine that wasn't a fruit bomb...
2018 Hendry Vineyards Malbec. After we visited Hendry many moons ago, I especially liked their Block 28 Zinfandel. So about 2 to 3 years ago, they had a sale with reduced shipping to the 50th, I jumped and purchased a 6-pack. Nice fruit but not cloying though a little drop off in the finish...
2013 Keplinger Hangman's - mainly Syrah with a touch of Viognier made in the style of Cote Rotie. I've always liked Helen Keplinger's wines and we did visit their tasting room in 2022 (also shipping a 6-pack back to the 50th). More about restraint than overt fruit bomb with a nice finish...
2018 Domaine Giacometti Cuvee Sarah Cuvee Patrimonio. Named after half of the sibling duo now running Domaine Giacometti, this Vermentinu was as delicious as they come with perfect balance...
Since it's time to turn in, I'll finish the rest of the adult bevvies tomorrow...
