Okonomi from The Rice Factory

Last weekend, The Rice Factory celebrated their 8th year in business by offering a sashimi handroll set created by Chef Yuji Haraguchi of Okonomi Hawaii (Chef Haraguchi also runs the two Osakana restaurants in New York) limiting production to 30 sets on June 1st, 2nd and 3rd by ordering and pre-paying by May 24th. Of course, we ordered our set as soon as The Rice Factory announced the offering via social media and they sold out quickly. The Rice Factory also offered Tamafuji Tonkatsu rolls on the 1st and 2nd but these were first come, first served from 12:00pm and when we picked up our order on the 1st at 1:35pm, were informed that patrons waited in line from 11:00am and were sold out within the first 10 minutes... The Okonomi was wrapped in a furoshiki...
Upon opening, it looked like this...
With a second tray for the rice...
Two sets of nori...
And gari and wasabi...
These are the individual sashimi offered including Big Island Kanpachi...
King Salmon from New Zealand...
Bluefin Ahi from Amami-Oshima Island...
Shime-Saba from Norway...
Local Whitefish (I think it was Onaga)...
Scallop from Iwate...
Tako from Oahu...
And Ika from Shizuoka...
Since we "saved" the Okonomi for an early dinner and I didn't have sake in the 'frig, we uncorked a bottle of Legras & Haas Blanc de Blanc Grand Cru Champagne which paired perfectly with the raw seafood...
I also purchased a 5 lb bag of brown Nanatsuboshi rice and The Rice Factory included a mini portion or white rice...
The seafood was excellent and the perfect size for a light meal. I also liked the pre-ordering as when they offer ohagi and mochi, it's always first come, first served which is a little tedious waiting in line for an hour before the store even opens...
